Apr 13 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is still attempting to develop nuclear weapons, but warned that it “will not be allowed” to do so.
According to BBC News, Trump made the remarks following the collapse of recent peace talks between the United States and Iran held in Islamabad.
He said that Iran’s intentions regarding nuclear weapons were made clear during the discussions and reiterated that Washington would not permit Tehran to acquire such capabilities. Earlier, Trump blamed the failure of the talks on Iran’s unwillingness to abandon its “nuclear ambitions.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered a different perspective, stating that both sides had come close to reaching an agreement. However, he said that “additional demands, repeated changes of conditions, and sanctions” ultimately hindered progress in the negotiations.
The conflicting statements highlight ongoing tensions between the two countries following the unsuccessful diplomatic efforts.
