London, Jun 23 (V7N)- The race for the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot is heating up as Argentine superstar Lionel Messi currently leads the scoring chart with 5 goals so far in the tournament.
The defending champions, Argentina national football team, faced Austria at 11 pm on Monday (June 23), where Messi continued his brilliant form. He scored a superb goal in the 38th minute to give his side the lead before adding another in stoppage time to complete his brace.
Earlier in the tournament, Messi had already scored a hat-trick against Algeria in Argentina’s opening match, taking his total tally to five goals and placing him at the top of the Golden Boot standings.
Closely following him is France’s captain Kylian Mbappé with 4 goals. Mbappé scored once in France’s opening 3-1 victory over Senegal and later added two more goals in their second match against Iraq, maintaining strong momentum in the scoring race.
