Nalchity, 15 Aug (V7N) — Rafiqul Islam Jamal, Religious Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stated that those who have endured political repression should be given priority in leadership roles. “Those who suffered for the party will stand at the front. Those who remained silent during movements should take the back seat,” he said on Friday afternoon.
 
He made the remarks while inaugurating the BNP’s new membership and renewal campaign at the Nalchity Municipality Auditorium. The program coincided with the 81st birthday of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and a special prayer session was held for her recovery and long life.
 
The event was presided over by Nalchity Upazila BNP President Advocate Anisur Rahman Khan Helal. The program was jointly moderated by Upazila Swechasebak Dal Convener Touhid Alam Manna and Member Secretary Saidul Kabir Rana.
 
Among the speakers were BNP Executive Committee Joint Organizing Secretary and former VP Mahbubul Haque Nannu, former Member of Parliament Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto, former District BNP President Mostafa Kamal Montu, district BNP leader Sardar Enamul Haque Elin, former advisor Golam Mostafa Chalu, Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum Central Welfare Secretary Advocate Zahirul Islam Sumon, Acting Convener of the District Jubo Dal Robiul Islam Tuhin, and District Swechasebak Dal Convener Md. Azadur Rahman Khan.
 
Also present were leaders of BNP’s associate bodies including Senior Joint Convener of District Swechasebak Dal Hedayetul Islam Sohel, Joint Convener of District Jubo Dal Enamul Haque Saju, Upazila Chatra Dal Member Secretary Sujon Khan, Upazila Mohila Dal President Monowara Begum, Municipal President Happy Begum, and General Secretary Laboni Akter.
 
The event concluded with a prayer for the health and longevity of Khaleda Zia, led by local religious leaders and attended by party activists from across the region.
