Dhaka, June 18 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has ordered the prison authorities to arrange the marriage of popular singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel with a former student of Eden Women’s College, who filed a case against him under the Rape, Torture, and Pornography Act.

The order came from Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter’s court on Wednesday after Nobel’s lawyer submitted an application, stating that both the accused and the plaintiff now wish to get married, claiming the case was the result of a "misunderstanding." The court instructed prison authorities to conduct the marriage with the consent of both parties and to report back once completed.

Nobel has been in custody since May 20, after being arrested from his residence in Demra Staff Quarters on May 19. Police arrested him following allegations of forcibly raping and torturing the former Eden College student and blackmailing her with obscene videos.

According to the case details, the two initially met through social media in 2018 and reconnected in November 2023. The plaintiff alleged that Nobel lured her to his home in Demra under the pretense of visiting a recording studio. There, she was reportedly held captive for seven months, subjected to repeated rape, physical abuse, and blackmail using explicit videos.

The case came to light after a video of Nobel dragging a woman down the stairs went viral on social media. Recognizing the woman, her family traveled from Tangail to Dhaka and sought help by calling 999, Bangladesh’s national emergency hotline. Police subsequently rescued the victim during a raid, though Nobel initially fled. He was arrested later that night using mobile tracking technology.

Police also stated that Nobel had made preparations to flee the country, renting a microbus to cross the border before being apprehended.

Nobel rose to fame in 2018 through a music reality show on a private television channel in Kolkata and later contributed to several film soundtracks in both India and Bangladesh.
