Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – SM Farhad, the General Secretary (GS) candidate from the Shibir-backed panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has alleged vote rigging at Amar Ekushey Hall by the Chhatra Dal-backed panel.

Speaking at a press conference around noon, Farhad claimed that BNP-affiliated staff were seen casting votes in favor of Chhatra Dal’s full panel and placing them in the ballot box. He added that after video footage and other evidence emerged, the individuals involved were removed from the hall.

Farhad further alleged that in order to cover up the incident, a counter-complaint was filed at the TSC alleging that ballots with his and fellow candidate Sadiq’s names had been marked with a cross.

“If there really was such a marked ballot, it should have been brought out for cross-checking,” Farhad said. “The ballots seen there did not have any marks, and the previous voter also made no complaint. If teachers are not involved in this matter, then some student or official is. The person responsible must be expelled. Evidence and footage should be provided instead of hiding the truth.”

Emphasizing that DUCSU exists to serve students and not political parties, Farhad said: “It is the right of Dhaka University students to vote for whoever they like. We need to respect that right first.”
