Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – Meghmallar Basu, the General Secretary (GS) candidate from the Prevention Council panel, cast his vote at the Physical Education Center in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections on Tuesday morning, arriving in a wheelchair.
Basu, accompanied by an aide, entered the center at around 11 am to exercise his franchise. Speaking to reporters, he expressed optimism, saying he hoped students would cast their votes in favor of Pragati.
The GS candidate has been campaigning despite health challenges. He was admitted to hospital on September 1 during the election campaign and underwent surgery. After returning to the campaign trail on September 7, Basu appeared at the Madhur Canteen for a press conference in a wheelchair, underscoring his determination to stay engaged in the electoral process.
Voting in the DUCSU elections began at 8 am and will continue until 4 pm. Students who are in line by the deadline will still be allowed to vote afterward.
This year, a total of 39,775 students are eligible to vote, including 20,873 male and 18,902 female voters. A total of 471 candidates are vying for 28 DUCSU posts, with polling taking place across 810 booths in 8 centers.
