Cox’s Bazar, July 30 (V7N) – Police recovered the body of a young hotel worker from Inani Sea Beach in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, raising questions over the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, 22, son of the late Rashid Ahmed and a resident of Jummapara village under Jaliapalong Union. He had been working as a hotel staff member at the Bay Watch Hotel in Inani for nearly two years.
According to local residents and police sources, several youths went to the beach to catch crabs around midnight on Thursday and found a body floating near the shoreline, just south of the Bay Watch Hotel. They later identified the deceased and informed his family members, who arrived at the scene.
Local Jubo Dal leader Shahab Uddin Shah said Aziz’s family had previously lived in the Inani area but moved to Jummapara about 17 years ago. He returned to Inani for work and was employed at a hotel. He called for a proper investigation to determine how the young man died.
The Bay Watch Hotel authorities said they were treating the incident seriously and reviewing nearby CCTV footage. They added that they had no information about any personal dispute involving Aziz.
Members of the Inani Police Camp visited the scene, prepared an initial report and sent the body to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman said the body had been recovered from Inani Beach and sent for post-mortem examination. He said the actual cause of death would be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report and completing the investigation.
Police said all possible aspects of the incident were being examined.
