Dhaka, Jun 23 (V7N)- An earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several parts of the country around 9:30 pm on Monday, causing panic among residents, especially in multi-storey buildings.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in Rupganj, Narayanganj, approximately 16 kilometers northeast of the capital Dhaka, with a shallow depth of about 16 kilometers beneath the surface.

Due to its shallow depth, the tremors were strongly felt across the capital and nearby districts. Many residents rushed out of buildings in fear, while others reported the sudden shaking on social media.

However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a slightly different magnitude of 4.4. According to USGS data, the epicenter was located about 10 kilometers southwest of Narsingdi, with a depth of around 10 kilometers.

No immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been confirmed. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
