In its inland river port warning bulletin, the BMD said that temporary gusty or squally winds blowing at 45–60 km/h from the west or northwest may accompany rain or thunderstorms in the regions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Farooq of the BMD confirmed that the forecast is part of their regular early warning system for inland navigation safety.

In addition, the BMD issued a heavy rainfall alert for several regions, citing the presence of active monsoon clouds. Between 6:00 PM on Sunday (May 18) and the next 72 hours, heavy (44–88 mm/24h) to very heavy (over 88 mm/24h) rainfall is expected in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

The latest forecast also warns of temporary gusty winds, lightning, and light to moderate rain or thunderstorms across many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, some areas of Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, and isolated places in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.

Authorities and residents, particularly those living in vulnerable low-lying areas, have been advised to remain cautious as localized flooding and disruptions in river transport may occur due to the adverse weather conditions.
