DHAKA, April 12, (V7N) – Max Tunon, the ILO Country Director, held a significant meeting with Md. Aminul Haque, the State Minister for Youth and Sports, today at the Ministry of Youth and Sports office. The discussion focused on strengthening youth employment initiatives and expanding skills training opportunities across Bangladesh.

The State Minister emphasized that the government is prioritizing the creation of job opportunities for youth, aligning with its broader economic goals. He highlighted that a variety of training programs are currently being implemented through the Department of Youth Development, aiming to equip young people with the skills necessary for self-reliance and better employment prospects.

Notable courses such as caregiving, mobile servicing, and freelancing have received a positive response from participants, according to the Minister. These initiatives, he noted, reflect the government's ongoing commitment to job creation as outlined in its election manifesto.

The ILO Country Director acknowledged the importance of these programs, particularly the ISEC (Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for Women and Youth in Cox's Bazar) project. Jointly executed by the ILO and the Department of Youth Development, the project has already successfully employed over 7,000 young people through 46 specialized training courses.

Tunon also expressed his interest in expanding collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, focusing on areas like capacity building, advanced training programs, and entrepreneurship development to continue fostering opportunities for youth in Bangladesh.
