Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) – Following the resignation of Rashed Khan from the post of Secretary General of Gono Odhikar Parishad, the party has appointed its current Senior Joint Secretary General, Hasan Al Mamun, as Acting Secretary General.

The decision was taken unanimously during an online meeting of the party’s highest forum on Saturday night, December 27. Members of the Higher Council, the Executive Committee and heads of various party units were present at the meeting.

Hasan Al Mamun is a prominent student activist and served as the convener of the 2018 quota reform movement, which played a significant role in Bangladesh’s recent student-led political activism.

Confirming the development, Abu Hanif, a member of the Higher Council of Gono Odhikar Parishad and the party’s media coordinator, said Hasan Al Mamun had been appointed Acting Secretary General at the party meeting. He added that a decision on whether Hasan Al Mamun would be given the full-time position permanently or selected through an internal vote would be taken at a later stage.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Rashed Khan resigned from his position as Secretary General of the party. Later in the afternoon, he joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He is set to contest the upcoming parliamentary election from the Jhenaidah-4 constituency under the BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” electoral symbol.

The leadership change marks a significant development for Gono Odhikar Parishad amid shifting political alignments ahead of the national election.
